Brief History of OMODA
Brief History of OMODA
OMODA may be new to South Africa, but it’s not just another Oriental upstart. Launched globally in 2022 under the Chery Group umbrella, OMODA debuted as a standalone brand with a distinct identity: fashion-fixated, globally unified, and digitally native. The name itself is a fusion of “Oxygen” and “Modern,” - one of which we absolutely need. While Chery brings the brawn of decades of R&D and sales across 80+ countries, OMODA brings the polish — with a focus on high design, advanced driver assistance systems, and Gen-Z appeal. Think concept-car aesthetic with road-ready practicality. In South Africa, the brand hit the ground running with the OMODA C5, and has since expanded to include the heftier C5 X and the flagship C9, a high-tech SUV that’s already turning into a spec sheet flex.

OMODA C5

The original gamechanger. With its coupe-like silhouette, Sci-Fi inspired dashboard, and big-screen brashness, the OMODA C5 broke the mold of what a compact SUV can look and feel like. It's fantastically futuristic, and more financially friendly than its segment rivals.

Engine: 1.5T turbo-petrol, 115 kW / 230 Nm
Transmission: CVT
Drive: Front-wheel drive

Don’t let the sporty lines fool you — this is a daily driver with street-smart practicality.

OMODA C5 X

The C5 X is what happens when the designers ask for more. It’s the C5, supersized — more presence, more tech, and more attitude. With unique styling touches and boosted spec, the C5 X is for buyers who want a bit more everything.

Engine: 1.6T turbo-petrol, 145 kW / 290 Nm
Transmission: 7-speed DCT
Drive: Front-wheel drive

With dynamic lines and upgraded driving dynamics, it takes the OMODA flavour and dials it up.

OMODA C9

OMODA’s flagship SUV — and the model that shows just how serious they are about heading into the premium territory. The C9 comes with all the toys: panoramic roof, Level 2 ADAS, big screens, and bold proportions. It’s luxury with a streetwear twist.

Engine: 2.0T turbo-petrol, 187 kW / 390 Nm
Transmission: 8-speed automatic
Drive: All-wheel drive

More Range Rover Lite than Chinese budget basher, the C9 puts the “flag” in flagship.

OMODA Warranty
All OMODA models come with a five-year/150,000 km warranty, with recommended service intervals every 10,000–15,000 km. To maintain warranty cover, vehicles must be serviced on time, with a limited grace period at dealer discretion. OMODA provides 24-hour nationwide roadside assistance, covering emergencies such as breakdowns, flat tyres, and battery failures via its official support line. While South Africa’s right-to-repair rules allow accredited workshops, OMODA advises servicing through its authorised dealer network to guarantee OEM parts, diagnostics, software updates, and full warranty protection. Most models also include a 5-year/60,000 km service plan, with options to extend based on usage.
