Used twice over the last week to get quotes for different scenarios. Both times the quotes loaded quickly, there was multiple options and as I had to leave the website, I got a WhatsApp after as well on which I could click the desired option which was nice

Good overall but would have liked more quotes that included major vehicle insurers like Outsurance, Momentum and Santam. Also, a way to save or download the quotes for quick access.

Insurers use a Car Insurance calculator to determine your premium based on your risk profile. They assess several factors to calculate how likely you are to make a claim.
Insurers check your age, gender and marital status when calculating your premium. Young drivers often pay more, while married drivers may pay less. Learn more about how demographics play a role in how much you pay.
Your driving record has a direct impact on your premium. Insurers look at how long you've been licensed, past claims and your overall history behind the wheel. A clean record over an extended time period can mean meaningfully lower premiums.
Where you park overnight, your province of residence and your broader lifestyle all influence your car insurance premium. Higher-risk areas typically mean higher premiums. See how premiums vary by province to understand what applies to you.
The make, model, personal or business usage as well as who drives it, all play a role in determining your premium. Safer, less expensive vehicles generally cost less to insure, while high-performance or luxury models attract higher rates.

What’s the cheapest Car Insurance in South Africa?
More comprehensive cover means higher premiums. Which means that third-party only will be the cheapest cover for your vehicle in South Africa. Although it’s tempting to save more on your Car Insurance so that you have more to spend on things you love, remember that you’ll get what you pay for. The cheapest Car Insurance might leave you wanting more if you happen to get into an accident. If you want complete peace of mind, comprehensive Car Insurance cover will do it for you. Since premiums can differ between insurers for the same person and the same cover. Cheaper Car Insurance, could be found by simply comparing quotes and finding a better deal with another insurer.
Why do you need Car Insurance?
1. Stats show that out of 10 million motorists in South Africa, 65% are uninsured. That means more than half of the drivers you see on the road aren't covered to pay for your vehicle to be repaired if they cause an accident. Scary stuff! 2. Accidents, vehicle theft, and breakdowns can happen when you least expect them to. Right now, can you afford the costs of towing, replacing or repairing your car or paying for the damage to someone else's vehicle? 3. Most insurers offer an array of added benefits, like roadside assistance, emergency response to an accident or help getting your keys out the car when you've locked them in there. All of these reasons contribute to why you need a Car Insurance policy. Luckily, Hippo is here to help you to find the best deal by comparing a range of quotes from 13 different insurers.
Can I insure more than one vehicle on Hippo?
You sure can! You'll just need to complete a separate quote on our website for each car you want to cover.
What is “excess” in insurance?
Excess is an amount that insurers ask you to pay in when you make a claim. Your insurer will make you aware of the figure upfront to prevent fraud when claiming from your insurer. There can be additional circumstance-specific excesses stipulated in your insurance policy. Always read your policy documentation.
How does excess affect my premiums?
Most providers will allow you to toggle the price between what you pay monthly and what you pay for excess. The higher your excess, the lower your monthly premiums will typically be. The opposite is also true; the lower your excess, the more you'll pay for your cover every month.
What different Car Insurance options are there?
There are three main levels of Car Insurance cover available to South African drivers. Comprehensive insurance is the most complete form of cover. It protects your own vehicle against accident damage, theft, fire and natural disasters, as well as damage you cause to a third party's vehicle or property. Third party, fire and theft cover protects against fire, theft and damage to a third party's vehicle, but does not cover accidental damage to your own vehicle. Third party cover is the most basic option. It covers damage you cause to another person's property but offers no protection for your own vehicle. The right choice depends on your insured value, your budget and how much risk you're comfortable carrying. Comprehensive insurance offers the most protection but comes at a higher premium. Third party cover offers a more affordable premium but leaves your own vehicle unprotected. Comparing quotes helps you find the right level of insurance cover at the most competitive price for your profile.
Is my car still insured if someone else drives my car?
This depends on the arrangements you have made with the insurer. If you plan to have someone else drive your car, say your 18 year old child, you need to inform the insurer of this and they'll note it in your policy. If you don't do this and your child gets into an accident in your car, you might not be paid out.
Does my insurance still cover me if I drive another car?
When you take out Vehicle Insurance, it's the car that's covered, not you. You're simply the main driver on the policy. If you drive someone else's car and are involved in an accident, their insurance will have to cover the cost of the damage, not your own.
How do I claim from insurance?
Every company is different, but the process typically goes like this: 1. Report any accidents, theft or hijackings at the police station. 2. The police will open a case and give you a case number. 3. You'll then call your insurer or submit a claim online or via an app (depending on the provider) with the case number. 4. They'll send an assessor around or ask you to take your car to an assessment centre if its drivable. 5. Once this is done, you'll find out if you're covered and for how much.
What is a cash-back policy?
Many (not all) insurers offer a cash-back programme that rewards drivers for not claiming. Some make it a year of no-claims, while others require you to remain claim-free for four years before collecting your cash back.
